6. AN ESN JOURNAL?

A constant debate throughout the existence of the society has been whether ESN should have its own journal, and approaches have been received over the years from various publishers. It is of interest to note that the American Society for Neurochemistry had discussed this possibility at around the time of its foundation in 1969, but uncertainties about the future of the Journal of Neurochemistry (see Bachelard, 1993) led to its ownership being transferred to ISN; a possible conflict of interests amongst members of ASN who were editors of the journal resulted in the debate being taken no further (Tower, 1987).
